The life of Arnold Palmer will be celebrated at a public event at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., at 11 a.m. on Oct. 4, representatives for the late golfer announced Monday.
A private funeral for Palmer, who died Sunday from "an aggregation of cardiological issues," will take place later this week, according to his longtime agent, Alastair Johnston. That schedule will allow the Ryder Cup, which begins this weekend, to go ahead without interruption.
Johnston and Sam Saunders, a member of the PGA Tour and Palmer's grandson, announced the arrangements at a news conference at Palmer's home club, Latrobe Country Club.
Johnston also encouraged members of the public wishing to commemorate Palmer's life to bring flowers, messages and other tributes to the Winnie Palmer Nature Reserve, named for Palmer's late wife. The reserve is located on the Saint Vincent campus.
While Johnston anticipated a large crowd for the public ceremony, he also said he hoped not to turn anyone away.
