Arnold Palmer dies in Pittsburgh at 87

Arnold Palmer, known as one of the greatest golfers in history, has died at 87.

The United States Golfing Association announced the legendary golfer's death on Sunday night. He was undergoing heart tests in a Pittsburgh hospital since Thursday, The Post-Gazette reports.

Palmer enjoyed a decade-long career winning four Masters and was named the Athlete of the Decade by The Associated Press for the 1960s.

He’s credited for pushing the sport of golf into the mainstream and toward international audiences.

“We should kiss the footsteps of Arnold Palmer because he’s the guy responsible for making us more money,” former golf legend Chi Chi Rodriguez once told reporters. “When Arnie wins a tournament, I make an extra $100,000.”
