Arno Botha leaves Munster to return to the Blue Bulls in South Africa

Arno Botha is leaving Munster to return to the Blue Bulls in his native South Africa.

Confirmation of Botha's departure comes following speculation that another Reds back row, Conor Oliver, is poised to move to Connacht.

"It's impossible to say how much the last two years have meant to me in a few photos," remarked Botha, who was Munster's top try scorer before the shutters came down on this season.

"I can say that it has been an absolute pleasure playing for one of the best clubs in the world & working with the best people.

"Playing in front of such incredible support was an honour and I'm very proud to have worn the Munster jersey. Thanks for everything."

Botha, 28, was originally earmarked for a move to Ulster but, having failed a medical, ended up at London Irish before moving to Munster in 2018 and he made 43 appearances for the province.

But with his compatriots Damian De Allende and RG Synman joining Munster this summer, along with Irish qualified full-back Matt Gallagher and with possibly more to come - Leinster prop Roman Sanaloa has been linked with a move - Munster have had to off-load, too.

Munster head coach Johann van Graan said: “Arno has been a great addition to the Munster squad and will be missed.

"I’ve no doubt the Bulls are delighted to see him return to his home province as he is a quality signing.

"We wish Arno all the best for the future and thank him for his time in red".
