Arne Slot reveals Jeremie Frimpong injury latest in new three-man Liverpool update

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has delivered an update on Jeremie Frimpong, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez ahead of Saturday's Premier League showdown against Newcastle.

Frimpong started Liverpool’s 6-0 thrashing of Qarabag in midweek, though his night was over inside the opening five minutes after pulling up with a non-contact injury.

The Dutchman has already faced two spells on the sidelines this season with a hamstring issue and Slot feared the worst following the Champions League tie.

Liverpool are currently dealing with an defensive injury crisis with Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni ruled out for the season, while Gomez missed the win over Qarabag.

This leaves the Reds with no fit senior right-backs available for selection and Slot will be keen for the situation to improve with some big games on the horizon.

Liverpool are next in action on Saturday, when they host Newcastle, and Slot has given an update on his injured defenders as well as Jones.

Speaking on Friday, Slot said: "He will definitely not be in the squad tomorrow so he's out for a few weeks.

"It's not as bad as we [first] thought, so something positive from something not so positive.

“Curtis is again available, he was sick as I said but he is available.

“Joe will not be available but that does not have to take much longer anymore, but he will not be available for the weekend.”

Slot has also revealed Ibrahima Konate will return to the squad after missing the last three games due to the death of his father.

"Ibou trained with us today and will be in the squad tomorrow,” Slot added.
