Arne Slot issues Liverpool rallying cry as Alexander Isak injury compounds selection headache

Arne Slot has issued a rallying cry to his Liverpool squad, calling on his players to “roll their sleeves up” amid mounting injuries.

Liverpool’s camp was rocked this week by the news of Alexander Isak’s leg break, which will keep him sidelined for a matter of months.

He joins the likes of Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo in the physio’s room, while Mohamed Salah’s departure to AFCON has only exacerbated Slot’s selection headaches.

Speaking ahead of hosting Wolves this weekend, Slot said those players he has available must get their heads down and focus on the task at hand.

“It is time for the players we do have available to do what they have done so many times and roll their sleeves up,” he told reporters.

“Not only our players but our fans as well. The players who are available need to give everything they have.”

While Isak is set for an extended spell on the sidelines, Slot has previously suggested Liverpool will not be spending heavily in the January transfer window.

Despite a miserable Autumn run of form and consistent injury woes, Liverpool sat fifth in the Premier League at Christmas and are just ten points adrift of top spot.

Slot feels the improving results are primarily down to newfound defensive solidity and a bit of good fortune.

"The main thing that has changed is, apart from the second half (of the win over Brighton), we haven't conceded that many chances as we did in the run we had before," he said.

"I also think we have been a bit more lucky than in the games before because we have played games where we were so much better than the other teams.

"In the last game against Spurs I don't think we had many more chances against them and against Brighton it was equal as well, and those two games we won.

"Many times we have been so unlucky with the result, almost every time, but in the last two games I wouldn't say we didn't deserve it but they were more equal games than many others we have played which we lost."
