Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has expressed embarrassment over Harvey Elliott's lack of game time during his season-long loan from Liverpool.
Elliott has only featured in four Premier League matches for Villa, despite joining to gain more playing experience.
Villa had an obligation to purchase the 23-year-old midfielder if he reached 10 league appearances.
Emery apologised for the situation, acknowledging the responsibility of both clubs.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot also voiced frustration, stating it was a “pity” that such a talented player had not received more minutes.
