The army captain suspected of killing an education office director turned up to answer the murder charge against him at the provincial police headquarters in Si Sa Ket yesterday only to be confronted by the dead woman's relatives.
Capt Supachai Phaso, alias Capt Neng, arrived at the provincial police head office at around 10am after police issued him a summons several days ago.
Provincial police say they have gathered solid evidence to justify charging the army captain with premeditated murder leading to the death of Juthaporn Oun-on, 37, director of the education office attached to the tambon Cham administration organisation in Kantharalak district of Si Sa Ket.
Supachai: Confronted by irate relatives
Capt Supachai, who is based at an army camp in nearby Ubon Ratchathani, slipped in through the back door to meet police investigators to avoid Juthaporn's relatives who were gathering at the front entrance.
Police said Capt Supachai has formally acknowledged the murder charge. He was also expected to be charged with concealing a body, according to a local police source.
After hearing the charge, he was taken by police to hear the provincial court's decision on his bail request.
As he was leaving the headquarters via the front door, he was confronted by Juthaporn's angry relatives who threw water in his face and hurled abuse at him.
Maipong Oun-on, Juthaporn's sister, said the family would oppose the suspect's bail request.
The murder charge against Capt Supachai came after DNA extracted from a skull found in a forest in Nam Yuen district of Ubon Ratchathani proved a match with Juthaporn's.
Juthaporn, who directed the education office at the tambon Cham administration organisation in Kantharalak district, went missing after dropping off her child at a kindergarten on July 3.
It was reported that police investigators believe Juthaporn and Capt Supachai were together on July 3 shortly before the woman's disappearance.
Capt Supachai reportedly told police earlier that Juthaporn had asked him to sell her car, a Toyota Vios. However, the signature on the car purchase agreement purporting to be that of Juthaporn may be fake, say police.
