Army bomb squad called as pair of hand grenades and €2.5 million in cannabis found in Co Meath

A pair of hand grenades and cannabis worth €2.5 million was found in a Co Meath property today.

The find was made during an intelligence led operation carried out by gardai from Ashbourne and the Ballymun drugs unit.

A man was also arrested at the Gormanstown property under the Drug Trafficking Act.

The Army bomb squad was also called to the scene to make the devices safe.

A garda spokesman said: "As part of an intelligence led operation by the Gardaí from Ashbourne Co Meath and the Ballymun Garda Drugs Unit, a property in Gormanston Co Meath was searched today, Wednesday May 8 2019.

"During the course of the search Cannabis Herb (subject to analysis) with an estimated street value of €2.5million was seized together with two (2) hand grenades. The Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD) were called to the scene and have made the devices safe.

"One male was arrested at the location and is currently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under the provisions of Section 2 – Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

"Investigations are continuing."
