Arms smugglers from MP held in Jhalawar district

KOTA: Busting a gang of illegal arms smugglers, Jhalawar district special team (DST) in collaboration with district police arrested two persons and recovered 12 pistols, including eight countrymade ones, and 28 live cartridges from their possession in Dug police station area on Saturday night .

The police also seized the motorbike the two accused were riding to supply illegal arms from Dhar district in Madhya Pradesh to Jhalawar.

The duo was on Sunday produced before residential court that ordered to hand them over to police on six-day remand for interrogation.

"On a tip-off of supply of illegal arms from MP to Jhalawar district, DST and district police jointly carried out checking of vehicle at Dudhaliya police check post under Dug police station on Saturday night," Jhalawar SP Monika Sen told media persons on Sunday.

During the checking of vehicles, police stopped two bike-borne persons who could not respond satisfactorily to interrogation following which the police searched them and their motorbike and recovered eight countrymade pistols, four other pistols manufactured in some factory and 28 live cartridges that included 25 of pistols and 3 of 12 barrel gun, she added.
