Armidale lockdown set to end with 'Super Saturday' mass vaccination hub

Armidale's walk-in mass vaccination hub will open on Saturday. (ABC News: Eliza Laschon)

If all goes well, the last scheduled day of lockdown for the Armidale region will see a 'Super Saturday' of COVID jabs at the region's first walk-in mass vaccination hub.

Northern Tablelands MP Adam Marshall and University of New England (UNE) Life director David Schmude made the announcement today.

On Saturday, any member of the public over the age of 18, if their medical history allows, will be able to receive their first or second AstraZeneca jab at the UNE Medical Centre.

Mr Marshall said the hub was essential to getting vaccination rates up across the region.

The Super Saturday Mass Vaccination Hub will operate between 10am to 3pm at the UNE Medical Centre, 110 Butler Street, Armidale.

No plans for Tamworth hub

However, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said there were no plans for a mass vaccination hub in Tamworth at this stage.

He also cautioned any Tamworth residents who were considering leaving the local government area to go to Armidale for vaccinations on Saturday to reconsider.

Mr Anderson also said AstraZeneca supplies had arrived at pharmacies throughout the region and administration of the doses could start as early as next Monday.
