Armed robbery of cash-in-transit guards in Sydney caught on CCTV

A manhunt has been launched for an armed robber who held up two cash-in-transit guards in broad daylight on a street in the Australian city of Sydney.

CCTV captured the masked gunman, dressed in black, intercepting the two victims as they got out of their armoured truck to make a morning delivery.

Approaching the two guards holding what appears to be an assault rifle, he forced them to lie face down on the ground.

The robber unsuccessfully attempted to remove one of their firearms before stealing the cash bags.

He then ran back to the getaway car, a silver Volkswagen Golf, and sped away from the scene.

New South Wales Police set up a strike force to investigate the raid, which took place in the Clemton Park area of the city.

The alleged getaway driver, a 35 year-old man, was arrested earlier this week and charged with April robbery, while armed with a dangerous weapon.

Officers also seized two pistols, cash and other items during searches of two homes in the city.

Detectives have now released the video of the raid in an attempt to identify the gunman seen approaching the guards.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives are appealing for anyone who knows the identity of the man, or who has information that may assist with their inquiries, to come forward."
