Armed robbery in East Belfast triggers PSNI call for witnesses

A shop in East Belfast has been robbed today by a man armed with a screwdriver.

Police say he entered the premises on Summerhill Avenue around 2.45pm and threatened staff.

Now detectives are appealing for witnesses following the armed robbery and have asked the public to send their report using the online reporting form via  www.psni.police.uk/makeareport

A PSNI spokesperson said: "It was reported that at around 2.45pm a male, carrying a screwdriver, entered the shop and threatened staff. 

"He demanded they open the till, however left empty handed when they refused.

"He was described as wearing a grey coloured tracksuit with a hooded top and a black scarf covering his face.

"An 18-year-old male, matching the description was arrested a short distance away and has been taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

"Detectives are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone with any information that can assist with the investigation to contact detectives in Musgrave Police Station on 101, quoting reference 896 06/06/20.
