Armed robbers fire shots and demand cash in shocking raid on Wigan Post Office

A pair of armed robbers threatened staff at a Wigan Post Office and demanded cash before firing a weapon.

The two men targeted Golborne Post Office, in Heath Street, before 9.10am this morning and told tellers to hand over money from behind the counter.

They then escaped in a Red Audi S3, driving away along Barn Lane in the direction of the A580.

Detectives say nobody was injured in the raid but they are yet to make any arrests.

In a statement, a spokesperson for GMP said: "Shortly after 9.10am this morning, police were called to reports of a robbery at the Post Office on Heath Street, Golborne.

"Officers attended and established that two men had entered the premises before demanding a quantity of cash be handed over. A firearm was subsequently discharged inside the property.

"There are not believed to be any injuries.

"The men fled the scene along Barn Lane, Golborne in the direction of the A580 in a Red Audi S3.

"Enquiries are ongoing. No arrests have currently been made. "

Police have asked anyone who might have seen the incident or know anything about it to get in touch.
