Armed robbers escape with cash after threatening staff at TGI Fridays in Prestwich

Armed robbers made off with a 'large quantity of cash' after threatening staff at TGI Fridays in Prestwich .

Three men carrying weapons stormed the popular restaurant, in Valley Park Road, shortly before 10.30pm last night (Sunday).

After making threats to staff, the men escaped with cash before speeding away from the scene in a stolen white Audi A3.

Armed officers were called in and carried out a search of the surrounding area in a bid to hunt the robbers.

They discovered the Audi ablaze on a footpath off Mersey Drive, in Whitefield .

Firefighters had already been called out to tackle the fire.

No-one was injured in the terrifying raid, but staff at the restaurant were left 'incredibly shaken, according to Greater Manchester Police.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

A spokesperson for TGI Fridays said: “We are aware of the incident and we are supporting the local authorities with their investigation.

"We’re grateful that no one was physically harmed, and our focus today is on supporting our team."
