Armed police swoop on street near Glasgow train station after reports of 'gunman'

A man has been arrested after reports of a gunman roaming near a Glasgow train station.

Armed police raced to Devlin Road in the Cathcart area of the city on Monday night after receiving a tip-off about a man carrying a gun.

Police arrested a 24-year-old man and recovered two firearms (Mirror)

Officers found no trace of the suspect but after further enquiries, raided a property in nearby Kirkwell Road.

Two guns were seized and a 24-year-old man was arrested in connection with the alleged incident.

Locals reported hearing a, 'loud popping sound', the Mirror reports.

LBC reporter Corrie Martin tweeted an eyewitness told her he saw seven officers with guns run on to the platform, then return and head towards Kirkwell Road.

She wrote: "Firearms officer seen with his weapon trained on a flat on Kirkwell Road.

"Eyewitness there says two more went in to the building, they heard shouts of 'Open the door' and a 'popping noise like a stun grenade'.

"We’re told armed units have now left the scene."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Record: "At around 9.20pm on Monday, June 29 police were called following a report of a man in possession of a firearm on Delvin Road, Glasgow.

"Officers attended and there was no trace of the individual.

"Further enquiries were carried out at an address on Kirkwell Road in Glasgow and a 24-year-old man was arrested in connection.

"Two firearms were recovered from the property."
