Man rushed to hospital after armed police swoop on Cumbernauld street after 'shooting'

A man has been rushed to hospital after a disturbance in Cumbernauld.

Terrified residents watched as armed police swooped on residential streets surrounding Dullatur Road amid an ongoing incident.

Officers were called to Brunswick Gardens which has been cordoned off.

It is understood an ambulance flanked by two police cars drove away from the area.

One resident said: "We’ve had no information from the police, but there are armed police, and normal police. The whole street has been taped off."

Another local claimed that a man had been shot in the back.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police are currently in attendance at an ongoing incident.

"A man has been taken to hospital following a disturbance.

"There will be a continued police presence overnight.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
