Armed police swoop on car in drugs bust

Two people have been arrested by police on suspicion of travelling from Liverpool to Devon carrying suspected crack cocaine and heroin.

Armed response officers and a police air service helicopter were involved in the stop of the vehicle in McKay Avenue, Torquay.

A 20-year-old male passenger, along with a 39-year-old woman from Torquay who was driving the vehicle, were both arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

A search of the vehicle, which had been driven from the Liverpool area, resulted in the discovery of around two ounces of suspected crack cocaine and one ounce of suspected heroin, reports Plymouth Live.

The two drugs had an estimated street value of around £10,000.

A Devon and Cornwall police spokesman said: "Police arrested a 20-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, both from Torquay, on suspicion of possessing a class A drug after a stop and search of a vehicle on McKay Avenue, Torquay between 5pm and 6pm on Thursday 2 April.

"The 20-year-old has been bailed until 30 April and the 39-year-old has been released under investigation pending further enquiries."

Both were taken to the nearest police station custody suite where they were interviewed by detectives from Plymouth police's proactive policing team.

The woman was later released under investigation while the man was released on police bail until April 30.
