Armed police swoop as escaped dogs chase neighbours in street

Armed police swooped on astreet yesterday after dogs escaped through a gate and began "chasing" residents.

Cheshire Constabulary said officers were called to Sea Lane in Runcorn at 12.57pm over reports of two dogs "out of control" on Sea Lane.

A force spokeswoman said the animals running amok were crossbreeds.

They are not believed to have bitten anyone and were not hurt during the incident.

Sightings of a large police presence including a Welsh firearms unit in the area near the canal were reported on social media.

The gate is being fixed to stop the dogs getting out again.

“I’d like to reassure you that we responded swiftly to the incident and the owners were strongly advised.

"The gate which the dogs got through is being fixed.”

The spokeswoman said: “At 12.57pm on April 8 police were called to Sea Lane in Runcorn following reports of two dogs out of control in the street.

“No one was reported to have been bitten, but some residents were chased by the animals.”
