Armed police swoop after 'man seen with gun'

Armed police were deployed this morning after receiving a report of a man with a gun.

A helicopter also took part in the search in Castlefields, Runcorn.

Cheshire police said it received the report at 8.24am.

No gun has been found and enquiries are ongoing.

There were no arrests.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said: "At 8.24am on Thursday, April 16, police received a report of a man believed to be with a firearm at an address on The Village Square in Runcorn.

"Armed officers attended the scene and made an extensive search of the address and the surrounding area – assisted by the police helicopter.

"At this stage no firearm has been located and enquiries are ongoing."
