Armed police swarm Edinburgh residential street after man 'seen with weapon'

Specialist firearm officers raced to an Edinburgh street this morning to reports of a man being in possession of a weapon.

Armed cops attended Oxgangs Crescent in the early hours as police officers swarmed the area during the incident.

Residents in the street spotted officers wearing riot gear and holding firearms as they approached an address on the quiet street around 7am.

Residents noticed an increased police presence (Edinburgh Live)

Photographs of the scene show at least four police vehicles in attendance.

A 20-year-old man has now been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries remain ongoing.

Chief Inspector Scott Richardson said: “Officers, including specialist firearms officers, attended an address in Oxgangs Crescent, Edinburgh, in the early hours of Friday, 21 May, following a report of a man in possession of a weapon.

“A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are continuing.”
