Armed police surround taxi in B&M carpark to arrest man linked to shooting

Armed police surrounded a taxi in a B&M carpark to arrest a man linked to a violent shooting.

Officers pounced on the car on Sunday afternoon as the driver started to exit the area on Tebay Retail Park in Bromborough .

Witnesses told the ECHO that police shouted at the driver to stay in the car as they arrested a 26-year-old passenger.

A second 26-year-old man was also arrested on Sunday and Cheshire Police have confirmed the arrests were made after a man was shot in the leg on Enfield Road in Ellesmere Port on Saturday.

The shooting took place at around 2.25pm before the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment to his injury.

Around 24 hours after the attack , two men were arrested for a range of firearm offences in connection with it.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said that, along with the arrests that were assisted by Merseyside Police , a number of searches are currently taking place at different locations.

In a statement, the force said: "Police investigating a firearm being discharged in Ellesmere Port have arrested two men in-connection with the incident.

"Both men, aged 26, have been arrested at separate addresses, one in the Merseyside area and the other in Cheshire for firearms offences and are now in  custody.

"Searches are ongoing at several locations.

"At 2.25pm on Saturday 30 November a man was shot in the leg on Enfield Road and taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

"Police would like to thank the community for their support following this incident."

Shortly after the shooting Jordan Woodfin-Gretsy, an employee at Abode Home Interiors said he retreated into the shop for safety.

He told the publication: “It’s scary - like really scary. It made me shake, it was horrible.”

One witness described hearing a loud bang, while another said they had seen men in a car shooting.

Muntaseer Mahbub, the owner of Sizzlin Spice Indian Restaurant, which was caught up in the cordon said: “I have been waiting since 4pm to open, but we’re not allowed.

"We’ve got loads of preparation to do. I didn’t hear or witness anything.”
