This is why armed police descended on an Oldham street

Armed police descended on a street in Oldham following concerns for a man who reportedly had a machete.

Officers were called to Brooks Drive in Failsworth at around 10am on Saturday morning.

It is understood the man smashed a window at a house and cut himself on broken glass.

GMP confirmed a machete was discovered inside the property and was seized by officers.

A spokesman for the force said the man - whose age has not been released - was suffering from a 'medical episode' and there was no wider risk to the public.
