Armed police storm Midlothian village street following reports of 'man with a firearm'

A huge police response raced to Gorebridge in Midlothian yesterday afternoon following reports that a man had been seen in a garden with a firearm.

Locals took to a community Facebook group to discuss the incident with one writing: "What's going on? Gorebridge is swarmed with police everywhere."

According to reports on social media, three police cars and vans rushed to Hillside Crescent North, with others reporting that they had seen a helicopter in the area.

However, one Gorebridge resident stepped forward to take responsibility for the situation: "Someone's kid was annoyed that I wouldn't let him fire my airsoft gun so he told his mum that I had an actual gun!"

Police Scotland said: "Around 12.25pm on Monday, 14 September, 2020, police were called following a report that a man had been seen in a garden on Hillside Crescent North, Gorebridge, in possession of what appeared to be a firearm.

"Officers, including armed officers, searched the area and traced the man. Following further enquiries, no criminality was established and suitable advice was given.”
