Armed police stormed a hotel in Cumbria after a man held a woman hostage in his room for more than six hours.
Officers forced entry to the suite at the Hotel Imperial in Barrow-in-Furness when the 21 year-old suspect refused to come out.
He was later arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment and taken to hospital for self-inflicted injuries.
The 22 year-old woman with him in the room was unharmed.
Cumbria Police were first called to the scene following reports of an assault.
When the man barricaded himself in the room, trained negotiators were called in to try and resolve the situation.
Five marked cars were parked at the front and armed officers were seen preparing to enter the hotel.
"Armed officers were deployed as a precaution," said Cumbria Police in a statement.
"There was no threat to the wider public during this incident."
