Armed police storm car on Paisley street

Armed officers stormed a car in Paisley last night as part of a firearms operation in Glasgow.

Police stopped the a red Volkswagen Golf on Neilston Road at around 7.10pm.

No items were recovered and no arrests made.

The stop and search came after a similar operation on Glagow’s Sauchiehall Street when a gun and ammunition were found in a black Mazda 6.

The car was stopped by police at 6.10pm.

A 55-year-old man has since been arrested and charged in connection with the find. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday.

A report will also be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

The two searches were conducted as part of an intelligence-led operation by Police Scotland.

Detective Inspector Martin McGhee of the forces’ specialist crime division said: “As part of an ongoing investigation, officers from Police Scotland have recovered a firearm and ammunition.

“I would urge anyone who may have information about the criminal use of firearms to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
