Armed police shut down city centre road to carry out drug raid on flat

A major police incident saw armed officers cordon off a city centre to raid a flat.

At 6.45pm, Merseytravel posted on Twitter that a police incident on Upper Parliament Street meant that traffic was closed in both directions between Catherine Street and Grove Street.

Pictures taken by an ECHO photographer on the scene showed police had taped off a section of the road while armed Matrix units were visible in the street.

An eye witness in the area told the ECHO: "Police are investigating a flat on the top floor.

"There are around 10 officers and a police dog was taken in."

Just after 8pm, Matrix vans and police were still at the scene inside the apartment but the road was reopened to traffic.
