Armed police search homes after man reportedly threatened by gang

Armed police descended on a quiet residential road after "a man was threatened by a gang".

Firearms officers, several police cars and dog handlers searched multiple properties on Martland Close, Woolavington, at about 6pm on Tuesday (August 4).

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police said the force initially received reports a man had been threatened by three other men at a house in Castle Cary, 20 miles from Woolavington.

"Following initial enquiries officers, including specialist firearms officers, made arrest attempts at a number of addresses," a force spokesperson told Somerset Live.

"As part of this operation, officers attended at an address in Martland Close, Woolavington, which has now been eliminated from their enquiries.

"The incident involves individuals known to one another and there is not believed to be any wider risk to the public.

"The investigation continues with officers following significant lines of enquiry.

"Anyone with information which could help is asked to call 101 quoting reference 5220174529."
