Armed police were reportedly scrambled to a road after reports of 'persons with weapons' on Tuesday night.

The alert tonight centred on Delaunays Road in Blackley, north Manchester, near to North Manchester General Hospital.

Officers were called to the scene just after 8pm on Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police said when they arrived, no one was found to be present.

There have been no reports of any injuries.

Police have launched an investigation (MEN)

The force made no mention of whether any weapons were recovered.

The type of weapons reported wasn't specified.

Enquiries, however, were continuing, the force said, and anyone with information is being urged to get in touch.

In a statement, GMP said: "Police were called to Delaunays Road in Blackley at 8.18pm on Tuesday to reports of persons with weapons.

"Officers have attended the location.

"No persons were present and no persons have been reported as being injured.

"Investigations are ongoing."

Police are appealing for witnesses.

The force added: "Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111."
