A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said: “At approximately 9am on Friday August 12, 2022, officers received reports of a man brandishing a firearm on Argyle Street in Heywood.

“It was reported that the man then discharged the firearm, causing damage to a window. Specialist firearms officers attended the scene and a 37 year-old man was arrested for criminal damage and air weapon offences.

“An air weapon was also recovered from his address. The man remains in custody for questioning. At this time there is no known connection between the male and the premises damaged.”

The mental health unit is a CAMHS service for young people who are experiencing emotional health and wellbeing issues, and is run by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust.

“There was an incident at #Thrive earlier today,” a spokeswoman for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust said. “(The suspect) had a firearm and it appears he was in his own garden.

“He shot into our building but no one was hurt.”
