Woman arrested for 'brandishing firearm' in Grimsby

A woman in Grimsby has been arrested after "brandishing a firearm" in the street.

Armed police were called to a suburban road in Portland Place on Saturday in response to concerned calls regarding a woman with a gun.

The area was sealed off and specialist officers, including negotiators, were deployed at the scene, as well as four ambulance teams.

The armed woman retreated inside a property off Legsby avenue and was eventually arrested.

A Humberside Police spokesperson said: “Roads around Portland Place in Grimsby are now open following the peaceful conclusion of a firearms incident that had been ongoing for a number of hours.

“A woman was arrested shortly before 4.15pm and is now in police custody. She will be interviewed in due course."

The arrested woman was placed into a waiting ambulance and checked over by paramedics, before being taken into custody.

Police said they were keeping her relatives up-to-date on her condition, but that nobody was hurt in the incident.

Two local residents told the Grimsby Telegraph that police had attended the rented two-storey property a couple of days previously following reports of a man “laid out in drunken state” in the front garden.

"Nothing much goes on down here ever," one added.

A police spokesperson said: “We would like to thank the local community for their co-operation and patience whilst we dealt with the matter and express our appreciation to all those affected this afternoon.”
