Armed police respond to reports of 'shots fired' in Cardiff

Armed police responded to reports of "shots being fired" on a residential street.

Residents took to social media to express worry over armed police being seen on and around Archer Road in the Ely area of Cardiff on Friday afternoon.

A helicopter was also seen flying low near to Windsor Clive Primary School. Residents reported the aircraft had been circling for half an hour by 2pm up to Llewellyn Avenue.

Residents on Archer Road and Stanway Place said police walked past their homes with guns and shields, while another said they witnessed a dog handler approach a home.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “Officers responded to a report received shortly after 1.10pm this afternoon concerning allegations of shots being fired in the area.

“A search was made by officers and the police helicopter. No-one was located, there are no reports of any injuries.

“Firearms officers were deployed as a precaution.”
