Armed police respond to reports of man with axe in Swansea

Armed police swooped on a Swansea street after reports of a man armed with an axe.

Officers responded to calls about the man in the area of Birchgrove Road, Birchgrove, shortly before 8pm on Monday, July 26.

He was reported to have headed towards a church on the road, and towards Heol Las.

South Wales Police said a local man was arrested in connection with the incident.

A spokesman added: "Police were called to a report of a man with an axe in the Birchgrove Road area of Swansea at around 7.50pm on Monday, July 26. No-one was hurt and a 60-year-old local man was arrested within 20 minutes of the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of an offensive weapon.

"He remains in police custody and enquiries are on-going".
