Armed police respond to report of 'a man with a knife' - to find a man who had been cutting trees in woodland

Armed police were called to a Bristol park after a man was reported being seen wielding a knife in public.

The officers attended Netham Park on Saturday at 3pm.

On arrival they found the man, who had been cutting trees with a knife. No offence had been committed.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 3pm on Saturday we received a call from a member of the public who said they’d seen a man with a knife in a wooded area off Netham Park.

“Officers, including armed officers, attended and found a man matching the description given who had been using a knife to cut trees.

“No offences were committed but officers used the opportunity to engage with the large number of people who were in the park and encouraged them to abide by the government’s restrictions.”

Over the weekend, it was reported on social media that many people were seen in the park in large groups, flouting the government lockdown rules at the time.
