Armed police respond to 'domestic incident' at a house in Salford

Armed police have responded to a 'domestic incident' at an address in Salford.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a number of firearms officers in the area around Cutnook Lane and Silver Street in Irlam this afternoon.

A police presence remains at the scene, with vehicles stationed near the Salford City Boxing Academy.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police could not clarify why armed officers have responded, but said there is 'no threat to the wider public.'

Gary Booth from Salford City Boxing Gym said he saw a number of armed police surround a terraced house opposite the gym on SIlver Street.

"There was a lot of them and they cordoned off the road," he said.

"They looked like they meant business."

"They were all armed and wearing balaclavas and helmets.

"They knocked on the door and there was a bit of shouting but I don't think they ever went in."

It is understood rumours of a hostage situation are unfounded.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "Officers are responding to reports of a domestic incident at an address in Irlam.

"There is no threat to the wider public.

"Investigations are ongoing."
