Armed police race to 'ongoing incident' in Edinburgh street as cops block road

Police are dealing with an ‘ongoing incident’ in Edinburgh with armed officers spotted standing guard at the scene.

Local reports claim that a heavy police presence was seen on Leith Walk at around 6.30am on Wednesday morning.

The Edinburgh Evening News reports that a section of the pavement, near Elm Row, was blocked off to pedestrians while officers were seen entering a property.

Police Scotland have confirmed they were in attendance as part of a pre-planned operation.

A force spokesperson said: "Officers in Edinburgh carried out a pre-planned firearms operation around 6am at a property on Elm Row in connection with an ongoing investigation.

"Enquiries remain ongoing.”
