Armed cops have raced to a Scots supermarket amid an incident involving a car fleeing the scene.

A huge police presence has been seen around the Aldi branch in the Newton Mearns, Renfrewshire area of the city tonight.

Police were called to the scene of Pollokshaws Road several miles away around 3pm amid reports of a car being driven on the pavement before fleeing the scene.

Details are unclear at this time but the Record has been told the incident involves armed cops, with roads reportedly sealed off near the supermarket.

It is understood there is also a large police presence at nearby Stewarton Road.

Pictures obtained by the Record from the scene show helmet-wearing police carrying rifles near the entrance of the shop.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called to Pollokshaws Road in Glasgow around 3pm on Tuesday, 13 April, following a report that a car had mounted the pavement before driving from the scene.

"This car has been traced in Greenlaw Way and officers are carrying out searches in the area for the occupants.

Enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing and there is not believed to be any threat to the wider public."
