Armed police race to Glasgow flats after 'ongoing incident' in West End

A major police incident is underway in Glasgow after armed cops were called to a block of flats in the West End.

At least three marked police vehicles were parked at Glasgow Harbour Terraces next to the River Clyde near Partick at around 9.30pm on Thursday.

Passersby were being urged to stay away by officers (Daily Record)

One eyewitness told how officers, armed with machine guns, were shouting at a man inside one of the flats.

He said: “They’re shouting up to a man in a flat and telling him to come out with his hands up.”

Residents and passersby also report being told to stay inside and to avoid the area by officers guarding the scene.

Another resident said police had came to his door and searched his flat before realising that they had the wrong floor of the building.

Police were later seen speaking to two men outside the flats before officers left the area.

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
