Armed police pin man to the ground after he tries to escape through house

Armed police pinned a man to the ground after he tried to escape through a house.

Officers were called to Haleforest Grove, in Stockbridge Village, on Wednesday after reports a man had been seen at a house with a gun.

At around 12.40pm police forced their way into the home before setting up a cordon on the street.

A short time later, a member of the public was videoing the scene when a man in a bright orange tshirt was seen running through the street from police.

Police make a number of attempts to grab the man before he runs towards a house on the street.

As he approaches the door, a group of officers appear from the back of the house and manage to stop him from entering the front door.

While holding their guns, the police then pull the man to the floor and pin him down in the driveway of the property.

A large police dog can be heard bark during the incident before the man is turned over and handcuffed.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that a man had been arrested.

The force said: "We were contacted at 12.40pm today, Wednesday 9 th September, following reports a male had been seen at a property on Haleforest Grove in Stockbridge Village in possession of a firearm.

"Officers attended at the scene and have detained a male on suspicion of possession of firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

"Nobody was injured and there is no suggestion any firearm was discharged.

"Enquiries are ongoing at the scene."

Pictures taken at the scene showed where police have cut the front door of a property in half to gain access to the house.

Officers remained at the home for a number of hours after the incident while a search of the home was carried out.

The police helicopter was seen and heard over the area so some time on Wednesday afternoon as witnesses described what they saw.

One man, who asked not to be named, said: ""At about 12.50pm, four or five police cars sped on to the estate.

"Lots of armed police got out of the car and were moving towards one of the houses on the estate.

"There were families spilling out into the road because they knew what was going on."
