Armed police have swooped on a housing estate and ordered all residents to "stay inside".

Residents in Southcoates, Hull, have expressed their shock at the ongoing operation, understood to be in relation to a serious assault on Saturday night.

One told Hull Live said: "It is scary. The full street is cordoned off and armed police have turned up.

"We have been told to get inside our properties. I don't know what is happening.

Chief Superintendent Christine Wilson said: "Officers are in attendance at an ongoing operation on Durham Street, off Holderness Road in Hull in connection with a serious assault which occurred last night."

The investigation continues.
