A delivery of sweet treats was made to Downing Street today by an armed police officer ahead of today’s critical vote on Brexit.

BBC social producer Andy Silke posted a video to Twitter showing a guard carrying two massive boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to Number 10.

He wrote: “It's a ‘snacks arriving under armed guard’ kind of day in Westminster.”

The so-called “meaningful vote” will take place later today as five days of debate on how to leave the European Union Brexit comes to a close.

One Twitter user asked when the Domino’s Pizza would be arriving, while another questioned whether taxpayers would be footing the bill.

News reporter Richard Chambers drew parallels with reports today on US President Donald Trump splashing out on a buffet of fast food to welcome college football champions to the White House.
