Armed police make dramatic arrests after two machete incidents in Leeds

Armed police descended on a street in Leeds and made four arrests following reports of two disturbances involving machetes.

Officers made the dramatic arrests on Buslingthorpe Lane on Saturday (May 22) after men were seen to be carrying the weapons on two separate occasions.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said the force were first made aware of a disturbance on Markham Avenue, in the Harehills area, at 3.28pm on Saturday.

A group of men armed with machetes fled the area in a car.

Enquiries were launched in an attempt to trace the vehicle before police received further reports of a similar incident in Ganton Close, Woodhouse.

The force believed the two reports to be linked and armed officers were deployed to the area.

The suspect car was stopped in Buslingthorpe Lane and officers recovered weapons - including machetes - from the vehicle.

Four men, aged between 24 and 32, were arrested on suspicion of affray and possession of offensive weapons. Three of the men were also arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

All four suspects have since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
