Armed police hunt for gunman who held up Co-op store

A man who robbed a Co-op store near Bristol with what was described as a handgun is being hunted by police.

Avon and Somerset detectives are appealing for help to catch the man, who threated a shop worker at the Co-op in Radstock late on Tuesday evening.

The man walked into the store on the Fosseway at around 9pm on Tuesday, July 21, and threatened the store worker with the gun, and forced her to hand over cash.

He then walked out and drove off in a red Citroen SpaceTourer MPV.

Armed response units and the police helicopter were scrambled to the scene after the woman called police.

"We responded immediately, with patrolling officers supported by armed response teams and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter in a search of the area. There was no trace of the suspect vehicle and our enquiries continue," said a police spokesperson.
