Armed police, helicopter and dogs swoop after daring midnight Co-op raid

A convoy of armed police, dogs unit and force helicopter swooped after a daring midnight raid on a Co-op store.

The dramatic scenes played out after burglars broke into shop in the early hours of this morning.

Police were called after the alarm sounded at the convenience store in Culcheth, Warrington around 1.15am.

When police turned at the village store in Common Lane they confronted a man in a car with a large stash of cigarettes.

Armed police, force helicopter and a dogs unit were then called-in to action after three other men made a bungled attempt to flee on foot.

Today Cheshire Police confirmed an investigation was underway and four people had been arrested in connection with break-in.

A spokesman said: "A 42-year-old man from Chester , a 20-year-old man and 23-year-old man both from Liverpool and a local 23-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of burglary."

They all remain in police custody to be questioned by detectives.
