Armed police descend on Scots street amid reports of man with firearm

Armed police descended on a Scots street amid reports of a man with a firearm.

Cops raced to reports of a man with a firearm on John Street, in Penicuik, after the alarm was raised at around 1pm on Monday, August 9.

However, police established no criminality after they arrived at the scene.

There were no injuries reported and the man was given 'suitable advice'.

One local told the Daily Record she had spotted four armed response vehicles pull up on a street near Strathesk Primary School.

She said: "The police pulled into Teviot Grove and turned around, still staying on Teviot Grove, but parked up on the pavement, and was then facing the primary school, still with their blue lights on.

"It was a bit scary to say the least."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police were called around 1.10pm on Monday, 9 August, 2021 following the report of a man in possession of a firearm at an address on John Street, Penicuik.

"Officers attended and there was no criminality established and there were no injuries.

"Suitable advice was given."
