Armed police descend on residential street after reports of person being threatened with a knife

Armed police descended on a residential street after reports of someone with a knife.

The incident happened at the Sandy Bank Road estate in Ystrad in the Rhondda at around 6.45pm on Wednesday, June 2.

Witnesses described seeing a heavy police presence arrive at the scene quickly, and one person was later arrested in connection with the incident

South Wales Police confirmed the person was arrested in connection with making threats with a knife, but they said tonight that the matter had been dealt with and there was no ongoing threat to the public.

Residents said such incidents weren't particularly uncommon on the estate (Public handout)

One resident who witnessed the police presence said she wasn't particularly surprised because incidents involving such a heavy turnout of emergency services had become common on the estate.

Another said it was the second time this year there had been an incident involving armed police on the road.
