Armed police closed off East Lancs Road to carry out firearms warrant

Armed police units that closed a Liverpool road and searched a home were carrying out an operation linked to firearms.

Masked officers involved in dramatic scenes in Norris Green on Sunday were executing a warrant, Merseyside Police confirmed today.

The investigation led to part of the East Lancs Road being closed by the force.

Neighbours said they were told to "stay inside for their own safety" when armed police attended a property on the busy road at 12.50pm.

They said a group of around 20 armed police wearing masks and carrying "massive" guns swooped on the road before going inside a house.

The East Lancs was closed between Stopgate Lane and Scargreen Avenue while the property was surrounded by officers from the anti-gun and gang crime Matrix unit.

Police were also seen s earching the front garden and looking in wheelie bins.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police confirmed police were executing a firearms warrant .

No arrests were made and no firearms were recovered in the operation.
