Armed police close road and swarm on property after hammer attack

Armed police swarmed on a property after a hammer attack.

Newton Road in the Twerton area of Bath was closed by officers at around 8pm on Monday (June 22) as they searched a property in the area, SomersetLive reports.

The armed operation, which also saw dog units at the scene, came after an attack at nearby Priddy Close earlier in the day.

In the assault, a man was hit with a hammer and woman was punched.

No arrests have been made so far, a police spokesman said today (June 23), as the investigation continues.

The spokesman said: “At 4.50pm yesterday afternoon police received reports a man in his 20s was struck by a hammer in Priddy Close.

“The injured male was taken to hospital with a shoulder injury. A woman, in her 60s, was also punched by a second man.

“Two addresses in the Twerton area of the city were searched by officers, including an armed unit, as part of our ongoing investigation."

The spokesman added: “Although our investigation is at an early stage, we believe the people involved are known to each other.

“We'd ask anyone with information about the incident to call 101 and give reference number 5220136474.”
