Armed police called to Swansea flat after reports of a 'man with a gun'

Armed police sealed off a street in Swansea after reports of a man being spotted with a gun.

Officers were called to an address, believed to be above a hair salon on Neath Road in Hafod, at around 4.30pm on Friday, May 28, and could be seen shouting and pointing their weapons at an upstairs window.

One woman who works in one of the nearby shops, who did not want to be named, said, "I overheard some police officers talking and they said there was a man with a gun above the hairdressers.

"We were told to lock the front door and go into the backroom.

"All we could see was police with dogs and squad cars either end of the street blocking it off. It was pretty scary."

A nearby resident added that she'd heard that the customers in the hair salon had been told to "get away from the windows and lie on the floor.

"The armed officers had to go through the salon the gain access to the flat above," she added.

A statement from South Wales Police said, "One person has been arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and is currently in custody.

"Nobody was injured and armed officers were deployed as a precautionary measure.

"Part of Neath Road was closed briefly while officers attended at the scene but it has since been reopened.

"The public are thanked for their cooperation."
