Armed police called to St Pauls incident

Three men have been arrested after what residents described as a major disturbance in Bristol today.

People living in St Pauls told Bristol Live it involved a disturbance and fight involving a baseball bat and a sword, and saw swarms of armed police descend on the street.

The incident happened on Wilder Street at just after 3pm on Monday, May 4.

One eyewitness said it started as an argument between two people, which reportedly escalated with weapons involved.

The man, who did not wish to be named, claimed the fight involved a "baseball bat, hammer and a sword."

Police were soon on the scene and made three arrests, as well as a search of a house on the street.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset police declined to confirm the eyewitness reports of weapons being involved, but said that it appeared no one was so badly injured in the disturbance that they needed an ambulance or hospital treatment.

“We received reports of a disturbance in Wilder Street, St Pauls, at approximately 3.05pm this afternoon (Monday 4 May),” a spokesperson said.

“Three males – aged 28, 38 and 47 – have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They remain in police custody.

“House-to-house and CCTV enquiries are ongoing. Although the investigation is at an early stage, we consider it to be an isolated incident.

“Anyone with information about what has happened is asked to call 101, or report it online, giving reference number 5220096944,” he added.
