Armed police called to reports of man with gun in Henbury

Armed police swooped on Henbury after reports of a man with a gun.

Police were called to a block of flats at Standfast Road at around 10.30pm on Saturday (January 2) after reports a man had been seen with a firearm.

A window at the property had also been smashed.

Officers, including an armed unit, attended and a 46-year-old man arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

He has now been released on bail and enquiries are continuing.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: “At approximately 10.30pm on Saturday 2 January we received a call from a member of the public about an incident in Standfast Road, Henbury.

“It was reported that a window had been smashed and a male had been sighted with what they believed to be a firearm.

“Officers, including an armed unit, attended the area.

“A 46-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm.

"He has been released on bail.

“CCTV enquiries are continuing.”
